The smart village initiative has the potential to alleviate poverty in rural areas and reduce the rural-urban migration challenge in sub-Saharan Africa. Given that Africa has the world's fastest-growing youth population. A total of 29 articles were included in this study following the PRISMA inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study observed that a few smart village initiatives had been implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa. Emphasis is mostly on climate-smart agriculture aimed at alleviating rural poverty and adaptation to climate change. There are challenges in implementing the smart village initiatives, such as a lack of supportive policies, poor infrastructure, lack of electricity, technologies and finances. The success of climate-smart agriculture is necessary for the transition to smart villages, as agriculture is the backbone of most villages in SSA. Collaborations between universities, technology owners and villagers are essential for the successful implementation of smart villages in SSA.","本研究旨在通过文献综述，探讨撒哈拉以南非洲地区智慧乡村的参与程度及其影响。 ,null,"International Journal of Applied Research in Business and Management","2026-09-01T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,53
"H7","climate","气候适应与防灾减灾","/topic/environment/climate","H",[
"classified","2026-10-22.2","rules
43,51,59,64
"I6",[],[],[26
"J3",[],[],[27],[70,71],"撒哈拉以南非洲 气候智慧农业 数字乡村 智慧乡村","撒哈拉以南非洲 气候智慧农业","撒哈拉以南非洲气候智慧农业数字乡村智慧乡村-1401","10.51137/wrp.ijarbm.753
"W7204867376",[77
Wlifreda Chawarura",0,"https://www.wr-publishing.org/index.php/ijarbm/article/download/753/737
[92,192,254,310,398,469
4739,"Regenerating Rural Futures Through Climate-Smart Agriculture Innovations: A Systems Perspective on Building Climate Resilience, Food Security and Inclusive Rural Prosperity in Nigeria","https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23298251","Rural Nigeria stands at a defining crossroads. Although agriculture remains central to national food security, employment and rural livelihoods, the ecological, economic and institutional systems that sustain agricultural production are under increasing pressure. Climate variability, land degradation, biodiversity loss, demographic change, market volatility and institutional constraints are interacting in ways that threaten both agricultural productivity and the resilience of rural communities. These challenges are deeply interconnected and cannot be addressed through isolated sectoral interventions or yield-focused agricultural policies alone. This paper examines the regeneration of rural futures through the lens of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), arguing that CSA should be understood not merely as a collection of improved farming practices but as an integrated systems framework for rural transformation. Drawing upon contemporary scholarship in climate science, agricultural development, resilience studies, ecological restoration, rural sociology and institutional governance, the paper explores how climate-smart approaches can contribute simultaneously to agricultural productivity, climate resilience, environmental sustainability and inclusive rural prosperity. Focusing on Nigeria, the analysis examines the country’s diverse agroecological zones, evolving climate risks, smallholder farming systems, demographic transitions and institutional landscape. The paper demonstrates that effective climate-smart strategies must be locally adaptive while remaining aligned with nationally coherent development objectives. It argues that Nigeria’s long-term agricultural competitiveness will depend less on expanding cultivated land and more on improving the resilience, productivity and sustainability of existing farming systems through knowledge-intensive innovation, ecosystem restoration, digital technologies, strengthened rural institutions and integrated value chain development. The paper further contends that sustainable rural transformation requires moving beyond fragmented development projects towards Rural Resilience Ecosystems in which agriculture, environmental management, community institutions, infrastructure, digital technologies, enterprise development and knowledge systems function as mutually reinforcing components of a coherent development strategy. Within this framework, the Climate-Smart Farmer Hub is presented as an operational example of how climate-smart agriculture, rural innovation, environmental stewardship and community capacity development can be integrated within locally responsive institutional systems that support broader national objectives for sustainable agricultural transformation and climate resilience. The paper concludes that Regenerating Rural Futures provides a useful systems-oriented paradigm for understanding how ecological integrity, economic opportunity, institutional effectiveness and community wellbeing can be strengthened simultaneously. By integrating contemporary scholarship with the realities of Nigerian agriculture and an original community-centred institutional framework, the study contributes an evidence-informed analytical perspective for advancing climate-smart agriculture, rural resilience and sustainable rural transformation in Nigeria and comparable development contexts.","尼日利亚农村正处在一个决定性的十字路口。 Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)","2026-10-12T00:00:00Z",25,78
"H6","biodiversity","生态保护与生物多样性","/topic/environment/biodiversity
[131,137,142,146,153,160,166,171
[139],"climate resilience",[139],[28
[57],[57],[112
"G2",3,[],[158],"smallholder",[
"I",[],[],[112
"W7221462831",[183
Franklin N. Although Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) has emerged as a strategic approach for improving agricultural productivity, resilience, and environmental sustainability, its implementation across SSA remains uneven and constrained by weak governance systems, fragmented policies, inadequate institutional support, and limited stakeholder coordination. Existing studies have largely focused on technological and agronomic dimensions of CSA, with insufficient attention given to the governance and institutional factors influencing CSA transition. This study, therefore, conducted a scoping review to examine the policy and institutional drivers of CSA transition in SSA, with emphasis on governance systems, regulatory frameworks, and institutional support mechanisms. The study adopted the PRISMA-ScR scoping review framework and systematically reviewed 21 eligible studies obtained from major academic databases and institutional repositories published between 2010 and 2026. Thematic content analysis was employed to synthesize evidence on governance systems, institutional arrangements, policy coherence, climate finance, extension services, and stakeholder partnerships influencing CSA implementation. The findings revealed that effective CSA transition depends significantly on coherent policies, institutional coordination, extension systems, climate financing, land governance, and inclusive multi-stakeholder partnerships. However, institutional fragmentation, weak policy integration, inadequate financing, poor extension services, and insecure land tenure systems remain major barriers constraining CSA adoption in SSA. The study recommends strengthening policy coherence, institutional capacity, decentralized governance systems, climate financing mechanisms, and participatory governance approaches to enhance climate-resilient agricultural transformation across Sub-Saharan Africa.","气候变化持续加剧撒哈拉以南非洲（Sub-Saharan Africa, SSA）的农业脆弱性，通过日益频发的干旱、洪水、土地退化及不稳定的降雨模式，威胁粮食安全、农村生计和可持续农食系统。 ,"Frontiers in Climate","2026-10-08T00:00:00Z
"W7221037154",[239,242,245
Adetomiwa Kolapo","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0808-1293
Melusi Sibanda","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6296-7079
Nolwazi Zanele Khumalo","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7504-6703
,"2026-10-09T23:30:08.200483Z
1397,"Gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture: a scoping review of equity, access, and participation in adaptation programs in sub-Saharan Africa","https://doi.org/10.3389/frsus.2026.1902768","Climate change poses significant threats to agricultural productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with women disproportionately affected due to persistent inequalities in access to productive resources, climate information, and adaptation opportunities. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) has been widely promoted as a strategy for enhancing agricultural resilience; however, evidence on its gender responsiveness remains fragmented. This study conducted a scoping review to systematically map and synthesize the literature on gender-responsive CSA interventions, focusing on equity, access, participation, empowerment, and adaptation outcomes in SSA. Guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), literature published between 2010 and 2026 was identified from major bibliographic databases and grey literature sources. Of 525 records retrieved, 23 studies met the inclusion criteria and were synthesized using descriptive and thematic analyses. From the study, the evidence indicates that gender-responsive CSA interventions improve women’s access to knowledge, extension services, financial resources, and leadership opportunities, contributing to enhanced adaptive capacity and household resilience. However, the review also identified mixed outcomes, with several studies reporting that persistent socio-cultural norms, insecure land tenure, limited institutional support, unequal decision-making power, and weak policy implementation constrained women’s empowerment and reduced the effectiveness of CSA interventions. Important knowledge gaps include limited longitudinal evidence, inadequate intersectional analyses, underrepresentation of West and Central Africa, and insufficient evaluation of institutional accountability. The review concludes that achieving inclusive climate adaptation requires a transition from gender-responsive to gender-transformative CSA approaches that address structural inequalities, strengthen governance systems, and promote equitable access to resources, decision-making, and adaptation benefits across Sub-Saharan Africa.","气候变化对撒哈拉以南非洲（SSA）的农业生产率、粮食安全和农村生计构成重大威胁，其中女性因在获取生产性资源、气候信息和适应机会方面长期存在的不平等而受到尤为严重的影响。 ,"Frontiers in Sustainability","2026-09-02T00:00:00Z",72
"W7204991613",[301,302
"Funso Omolayo Alabuja
,"2026-09-02T23:30:09.578760Z
5478,"Characterisation of Food Security Situation for Smallholder Farmers in Zvimba","https://doi.org/10.71458/rx0qpm30","This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the food security situation among smallholder farmers (SHFs) in Zvimba District, Zimbabwe. The quantitative data were supplemented by 12 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and 24 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with farmers, community leaders and agricultural extension officers to capture qualitative nuances. The study is grounded in the Food Security Theory (FST), which conceptualises food security through its four pillars: food availability, food access, food utilisation and food stability. Findings reveal a precarious food security situation. Quantitatively, 78.4% of households were found to be food insecure, with an average Hunger Months Index of 4.7 months per year. The study identifies a significant disconnect between maize production, the national staple and household consumption, with over 65% of households failing to produce enough maize to meet their annual requirements. Qualitative data illuminated the multi-faceted drivers of this insecurity. Key points to note include climate change whereby erratic rainfall and prolonged mid-season dry spells were consistently reported as the primary production challenges, limited access to farming inputs whereby high costs and unreliable supplies of certified seeds, fertilizers and agro[1]chemicals constrain productivity. Morelso, socio-economic factors such as poverty, lack of viable alternative livelihoods and limited access to formal credit perpetuate a cycle of vulnerability. In addition, institutional weaknesses, for example, challenges with agricultural extension services and market inefficiencies, exacerbate the situation. The study concludes that food insecurity in Zvimba is not merely a problem of food production, but is deeply rooted in structural issues affecting food access, food utilisation, as well as food stability. Recommendations are proposed for a multi-sectoral approach, including promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and drought-resistant crops, strengthening input support systems and rural finance, diversifying livelihood strategies and enhancing the capacity of extension services. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the localised dynamics of food security and provides evidence-based guidance for policymakers, development practitioners and the farmers of Zvimba themselves.","本研究对津巴布韦兹维姆巴区小农户（smallholder farmers, SHFs）的粮食安全状况进行了全面分析。 Ngenani The Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti Journal of Community Engagement and Societal Transformations","2026-10-20T00:00:00Z",55
[339,343,347,352,358,365,372
[133],[135,133],[135
[158],[325,158],[325
[],[48,221,49,350],"drought",[28
"G1",[],[326,356],"agricultural extension",[326
"W7223029383",[384,387,390
Casper Myambo","https://orcid.org/0009-0007-8625-7526
Chipo Plaxedes Mubaya","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4123-0238
Patience Mutopo
,"2026-10-21T23:30:08.937079Z
5473,"Can regional value-chain integration decouple China's agri-food export growth from production-side direct CO2 attributed to export domestic value added? We build a 2007–2023 bilateral country–industry–year panel for C01 agriculture, forestry, and fishing and C03 food processing across 39 economies currently classified as Belt and Road partners. Asian Development Bank multi-regional input–output tables identify bilateral value-added paths, while Chinese sectoral fossil-energy data and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change emission factors are used to measure production-side direct fossil-energy CO 2 attributed to export domestic value added. The analysis combines logarithmic mean Divisia index decomposition, fixed-effects models, an external shift-share instrument, value-chain configuration tests, and a within–between decomposition. Four findings stand out. First, long-run carbon-intensity improvement more than offsets cumulative scale and structural pressures. Second, the baseline fixed-effects and IV estimates show a negative overall association between RVC cooperation and absolute production-side direct CO 2 , and this relationship remains negative in post-2013 samples. Third, within established partner–industry relationships, deeper RVC is significantly associated with lower carbon per unit of exports, while the export-scale and absolute-carbon coefficients are statistically insignificant. Fourth, denser two-way embedment is associated with higher carbon pressure, a more forward-oriented structure with lower carbon, and deep cooperation with a higher carbon association than shallow cooperation. The results suggest that climate-smart agri-food integration should combine production-efficiency gains with forward-oriented domestic value creation and careful monitoring of the scale effects of deeper production networks.","本研究考察区域价值链（RVC）整合能否在促进农食产品出口增长的同时改善中国出口部门的碳绩效。 ,"Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems",79
"W7223067445",[457,459,461
Kunlin Tang
Wei Yang
Yuan Huang
,"2026-10-21T23:30:07.454815Z
5472,"Turning dirt into gold: the business case of soil carbon for agrarian pathways in arid climate","https://doi.org/10.3389/fsufs.2026.1966265","Introduction Agricultural carbon sequestration offers considerable potential for mitigating anthropogenic climate change, particularly in the low-organic-carbon soils of the Middle East. This study presents a foundational scenario-based assessment of soil carbon sequestration and economic feasibility. Materials and methods Crop production and market datasets from Jordanian statistics (1998–2023) were used to estimate potential soil carbon sequestration and economic performance. Using benchmarks from literature in comparable agroecological regions, four soil carbon management practices were evaluated across multiple crops for their carbon storage potential using Monte Carlo uncertainty and sensitivity analysis. Sensitivity of economic performance was assessed under optimistic/pessimistic scenarios. Results Among the evaluated practices, the highest carbon sequestration rate was achieved through increased Soil Organic Carbon (SOC), reaching a maximum of 27.44 metric tons of CO₂ per hectare per year (tCO₂/ha/year) under the high scenario for cucumbers. In contrast, barley showed the highest sequestration rate at 0.45 tCO₂/ha/year under increased SOC in the high scenario. Sensitivity analysis showed that ±20% uncertainty in the management coefficients resulted in practice-specific changes of 1.11 tCO₂/ha/year for increased SOC and 0.46 tCO₂/ha/year for improved cropland management. Horticultural crops, particularly cucumbers and lemons, exhibited the highest sequestration rates and strongest responses to management interventions. Field crops such as wheat, barley, and olives demonstrated lower, more stable sequestration rates. Economic analysis revealed that cucumbers, grapes, potatoes, and Open-field farming (OFF) tomatoes achieved the highest tri-pillar performance (net and adjusted profits and break-even cost) alongside effective carbon sequestration. These findings highlight that crop choice is a primary determinant of both crop profitability and sequestrated carbon potential and feasibility, with significant implications for climate-smart agriculture, carbon credit mechanisms, and intensification strategies in data-scarce regions. Study limitations While empirical field validation remains a future priority, this model-based study provides a screening-level theoretical baseline to guide targeted research and investment in arid agricultural systems.","引言 农业碳封存为缓解人为气候变化提供了可观潜力，尤其是在中东低有机碳土壤中。
"carbon","农业碳与绿色低碳","/topic/environment/carbon
[500,505,509,515,522,529,535,541,545
[],[48,221,49],[28
"W7223064172",[557,559,561,564,566
Tasnim Althalaj
Ross.
