This study aims to ecologically validate a high-resolution (30 m) predictive map of MOGF probability across Italy by integrating it with independent ground-based data from the 2015 National Forest Inventory (INFC2015). Utilizing a multi-source approach, we analyzed 6993 inventory sampling plots across diverse forest types and environmental gradients. Statistical analysis confirmed that higher MOGF probabilities strongly correlate with indicators of advanced stand development, including older age classes (> 120 years), multilayered vertical structures, and high canopy cover (> 80%). MOGF probability is also significantly higher within strictly protected areas (e.g., National Park Zone A) and topographically remote sites characterized by high altitudes and steep slopes. Quantitative correlations also link MOGF probability to an increase in above-ground biomass and deadwood. While the study successfully validates the spatial patterns of forest maturity, limitations include the current lack of national-scale 3D LiDAR data for deadwood modeling and the lack of microhabitat indicators in the INFC2015. However, the anticipated inclusion of these metrics in future national frameworks will further refine the monitoring of these ecosystems.","成熟林与类原始林（Mature and Old-Growth-like Forests, MOGF）对生物多样性保护和气候调节至关重要，但在欧洲范围内仍属稀有且呈破碎化分布。 ,null,"L’Italia forestale e montana","2026-10-06T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,79
"needs_review","2026-10-22.2","rules
[38,46,53
"I3",9,true,[43],"remote sensing",[],[27
"H6",7,[],[26,51],"biodiversity",[26
"W7220657040",[68,71,74,77,79,81,84,87,90,93,95,98
Costanza Borghi","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5334-7548
Francesco Solano","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2457-5517
Giovanni D’Amico","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2341-3268
Titomanlio Pepe
Mattia Niccoli
Elia Vangi","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9772-2258
Francesco Parisi","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1914-7331
Davide Travaglini","https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0706-2653
Giuseppe Modica","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0388-0256
Giancarlo Papitto
Gianluca Piovesan","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3214-0839
Gherardo Chirici","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0669-5726",0,"https://italiaforestalemontana.it/index.php/ifm/article/download/1250/1223
,"openalex","2026-10-08T23:30:30.762484Z
6,[114,171,223,314,391,466
4821,"Producing a Red List of Ecosystems for the Brazilian Cerrado","https://doi.org/10.1111/csp2.70426","Abstract Land clearance is a key driver of biodiversity loss. This is a particular challenge in the Brazilian Cerrado, the world's most biodiverse savanna biome and a region experiencing a rapid expansion of agriculture. To inform habitat conservation and restoration actions, we used the Red List of Ecosystems (RLE) framework to identify threatened ecosystems within the Cerrado. This biome is divided into 20 ecoregions, and we subdivided each ecoregion into forest, savanna, grassland, and wetland ecosystems. We used remote sensing data from 1985 to 2020 to measure and predict the distribution of each ecosystem and assess its risk of collapse based on Criterion A2b (reduction in geographic distribution over any 50‐year period), Criterion B1 (limited extent of occurrence), and Criterion B2 (limited area of occupancy). Of the 80 ecosystems comprising the Cerrado, we assessed 12 as Endangered and 43 as Vulnerable. Most of these threatened ecosystems were identified under Criterion A2b, while Criterion B identified a smaller subset of spatially restricted ecosystems, particularly wetlands, underscoring the importance of applying more than one criterion in the assessment process. By using the Red List of Ecosystems as an international standard, we provide the first globally comparable analysis of the state of the Cerrado, showing that nearly three‐quarters of the region's ecosystems are at risk of collapse. This information provides a baseline to inform local policy and practice, helping to conserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem services within this globally important region.","土地开垦是生物多样性丧失的主要驱动因素。 ,"Conservation Science and Practice","2026-10-12T00:00:00Z",81
"生态保护与生物多样性","/topic/environment/biodiversity","H",[
"classified
141,146
"W7221517508",[159,162
Juliana Ávila Martins","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5465-8276
Robert J. Understanding the spatial drivers and future trajectories of land-use and land cover (LULC) change is critical for safeguarding the ecosystem services and biodiversity that remnant natural areas provide. This study investigated the relative importance of multiple biophysical, socioeconomic, and demographic drivers of natural ecosystem loss in the Guaporé River Basin (GRB), a 246,300-ha subtropical Atlantic Forest agricultural watershed in southern Brazil. We combined a municipality-level temporal trend analysis to characterize historical LULC dynamics (1998–2019) with the Dinamica EGO cellular automata model, calibrated using Weight of Evidence (WoE), to simulate future landscapes under 2030 and 2050 scenarios. Our results reveal divergent ecological dynamics across the basin. The Northern region experienced extensive remnant vegetation loss (1.55% yr −1 conversion to altered ecosystems), driven by flat terrain and high agricultural productivity, while the Southern region showed partial natural regeneration (1.40% yr −1 transition from altered to regenerating vegetation), linked to steeper slopes and vegetation extraction practices. Despite apparent recovery, closer analysis reveals a regressive process of ecological simplification, in which remnant vegetation is progressively replaced by regenerating vegetation. Future projections suggest that, without strengthened enforcement of Brazil's Natural Vegetation Protection Law, the Northern basin will lose an additional 15,903 ha of remnant vegetation by 2050. These findings highlight critical spatial mismatches between legal protection frameworks and actual land-use pressures, with direct implications for conservation planning, watershed management, and biodiversity protection in the Atlantic Forest biome.","大西洋森林是全球受威胁最严重的生物多样性热点地区之一，面临着农业扩张和土地治理不足带来的巨大压力。 ,"Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems","2026-10-11T00:00:00Z",75
"W7221477243",[210,213,215
Edberto Moura Lima","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8447-8460
Bano Mehdi-Schulz
Jose Miguel Reichert
,"2026-10-12T23:30:06.576251Z
4674,"Impact assessment of co-management strategies on forest ecosystem in protected areas of Bangladesh using remote sensing and GIS based analysis","https://doi.org/10.1007/s44274-026-01052-0","Co-management of Protected Areas (PAs) has emerged as a strategy to make forest restoration and biodiversity conservation more effective by encouraging the active participation of local people. This study analyzed the co-management effects in two protected areas i.e. Dharmapur Shal Forest and Nawabganj National Park in Dinajpur District, Bangladesh. Land use and land cover change were monitored between 1990 and 2022 using Landsat images. The study considered four main categories: forests, encroached areas, barren lands and water bodies. The findings indicated that forest cover diminished in both forests between 1990 and 2003, but experienced a significant recovery by 2022. The expanse of Dharmapur Shal forest diminished from 552.05 hectares in 1990 to 469.95 hectares in 2003, then rising to 550.41 hectares in 2022. While the forest cover in Nawabganj National Park declined from 454.18 hectares to 393.72 hectares, it recovered to 432.36 hectares in 2022, suggesting a positive association between co-management implementation and forest recovery. However, 2023 ground-truth data indicates that while native Shorea robusta remains dominant (60–65% in Dharmapur; 75–80% in Nawabganj), the forest recovery includes a significant component of exotic plantations ( Acacia and Eucalyptus ) established in previously degraded areas. This suggests a shift in forest composition alongside overall increase in canopy cover. Classification accuracy for 2022 was assessed using a confusion matrix against 120 ground-truth points, achieving an overall accuracy of 86.67% (Kappa = 0.82). Producer's and user's accuracies ranged from 78.57 to 93.33%, with the primary confusion observed between Barren Land and Encroached Area classes. Barren land initially increased and decreased in both areas, while water bodies remained relatively stable. Ecosystem service values (ESVs) related to carbon sequestration, biodiversity and water regulation also improved, based on global valuation coefficients rather than site-specific estimates. Yet whether tree species diversity (TSD) affects forest resilience differently under drought-only and hot drought remains unclear. Here, we conducted a global assessment of TSD effects on NDVI-based forest resilience under drought-only and hot drought events. By integrating satellite-based estimates of resilience with global tree species richness data and environmental covariates across ten major forest biomes, we found that global forests exhibited reduced post-drought growth under both drought conditions, with more spatially extensive reductions under hot drought. Importantly, the TSD-resilience relationship differed markedly between them. TSD effects on forest resilience were widely negative under drought-only conditions but became predominantly positive under hot drought. Hot drought also amplified both positive and negative TSD effects relative to drought-only events. Interaction analyses further showed that, under drought-only conditions, TSD effects were broadly modulated by mean annual temperature and vapor pressure deficit, whereas under hot drought, mean annual temperature was the only environmental variable showing widespread modulation of TSD effects. In addition, resilience was more sensitive to the number of tree species under hot drought and in species-poor forests. Our findings highlight that anomalously high temperature accompanying drought reshapes both the direction and magnitude of TSD effects on forest resilience and identify low-richness regions as strategic targets where management interventions may deliver greater ecological benefits.","气候变暖正在增加热干旱的发生频率，即水分亏缺与异常高温同时出现，对森林生态系统和碳汇构成日益增大的风险。 ,"Environmental Research Letters","2026-10-08T00:00:00Z
"W7155548477",[362,364,367,369,372,374,377,380
Zifan Zhang
Pei Wang","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8647-253X
Xiuchen Wu
Wen Zhang","https://orcid.org/0009-0003-4431-7026
Yang Li
Renjie Guo","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0963-0047
X Y Wang","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6891-0711
Zekai Meng","https://orcid.org/0009-0007-1137-7996","https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/aeb1df/pdf
4595,"Nationwide deadwood mapping reveals rising mountain forests vulnerability","https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2026.09.041","Forest mortality is increasing globally under climate change, making detailed, large-scale monitoring essential for understanding ecosystem responses and guiding adaptive forest management. Here, we present a spatio-temporal assessment of standing deadwood in Switzerland from 2018 to 2023, derived from centimeter-scale high-resolution aerial imagery. We reveal a consistent upslope concentration of standing deadwood, with highest shares occurring around mid to high elevations (∼1,500 m), despite declining forest cover, and relative increases of up to 43% in overlapping survey areas following the 2018 drought. Maximum temperature anomalies and conifer dominance were the strongest predictors of standing deadwood. The consistent accumulation of standing deadwood at higher elevations suggests increasing vulnerability of mountain forests, with implications for carbon storage, biodiversity, and disturbance susceptibility under ongoing climate change. These patterns highlight the need to address rising forest mortality as a key component of climate-adaptive forest management. Furthermore, our results demonstrate the potential of high-resolution remote sensing for large-scale forest mortality monitoring. The summer of 2021 brought a severe drought to southern Finland. We explored how a drained boreal peatland forest responds to drought by combining a wide range of in situ monitoring and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing. A dataset combining eddy-covariance (EC) fluxes, sap-flow sensors, UAV mapping, soil and weather data was collected. Spruce stand reaction to drought is examined at sub-daily to seasonal time scales, and its temporal and spatial features are identified separately for a recently thinned Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) block and a control block. Sap flow data showed that the CCF-harvested block shows greater tree resilience to high vapour pressure deficit (VPD) than the control block, likely due to the higher soil water availability during the rainless and hot period. At the same time, both the control and CCF harvest blocks had notably reduced net ecosystem exchange (NEE) and increased Bowen ratio, particularly on high VPD days. The UAV surveys indicated that trees in the CCF block tend to have higher canopy temperatures and lower Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) than in the control block, implying their possible susceptibility to more extreme drought.","摘要：2021年夏季，芬兰南部遭遇严重干旱。 ,"Biogeosciences",74
"W7127903348",[512,515,518,521,524,527,529,532,534,537,539
Pavel Alekseychik","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4081-3917
Mikko Peltoniemi","https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2028-6969
Raisa Mäkipää","https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3146-4425
Ville Tuominen","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0612-128X
Tuomas Laurila","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1967-0624
Hamlyn G.
