Understanding the spatial drivers and future trajectories of land-use and land cover (LULC) change is critical for safeguarding the ecosystem services and biodiversity that remnant natural areas provide. This study investigated the relative importance of multiple biophysical, socioeconomic, and demographic drivers of natural ecosystem loss in the Guaporé River Basin (GRB), a 246,300-ha subtropical Atlantic Forest agricultural watershed in southern Brazil. We combined a municipality-level temporal trend analysis to characterize historical LULC dynamics (1998–2019) with the Dinamica EGO cellular automata model, calibrated using Weight of Evidence (WoE), to simulate future landscapes under 2030 and 2050 scenarios. Our results reveal divergent ecological dynamics across the basin. The Northern region experienced extensive remnant vegetation loss (1.55% yr −1 conversion to altered ecosystems), driven by flat terrain and high agricultural productivity, while the Southern region showed partial natural regeneration (1.40% yr −1 transition from altered to regenerating vegetation), linked to steeper slopes and vegetation extraction practices. Despite apparent recovery, closer analysis reveals a regressive process of ecological simplification, in which remnant vegetation is progressively replaced by regenerating vegetation. Future projections suggest that, without strengthened enforcement of Brazil's Natural Vegetation Protection Law, the Northern basin will lose an additional 15,903 ha of remnant vegetation by 2050. These findings highlight critical spatial mismatches between legal protection frameworks and actual land-use pressures, with direct implications for conservation planning, watershed management, and biodiversity protection in the Atlantic Forest biome.","大西洋森林是全球受威胁最严重的生物多样性热点地区之一，面临着农业扩张和土地治理不足带来的巨大压力。 ,null,"Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems","2026-10-11T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,75
"H6","biodiversity","生态保护与生物多样性","/topic/environment/biodiversity","H",[
"classified","2026-10-22.2","rules
45,51
"W7221477243",[64,67,69
Edberto Moura Lima","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8447-8460
Bano Mehdi-Schulz
Jose Miguel Reichert",0
,"openalex","2026-10-12T23:30:06.576251Z
6,[83,157,234,284,332,409
5392,"Wetland Loss Associated with Hydro-Agricultural Development in North African Floodplains: Insights from a Historical Cartographic Analysis of the Gharb Plain (Morocco)","https://doi.org/10.3390/d18100642","Mediterranean floodplain wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems, yet they are increasingly threatened by agricultural intensification and hydrological modifications. In North Africa, most of these wetlands have been converted to agricultural lands using an extensive ‘drainage–irrigation’ process that has irreversibly degraded them. This study documents this loss through the illustrative example of the Gharb Plain in the northwest of Morocco. The agricultural development process of this plain, initiated in 1927 and only recently completed, is documented by both historical maps and remote sensing data, which we combined to reconstruct the simultaneous wetland decline and agriculture extension. The results reveal a dramatic decline in marshland ecosystems, covering about 88% of the original marshlands in less than one cycle. Several wetlands, including large ones, have entirely disappeared, particularly within the Sebou and Baht river floodplains. To ensure their human occupation, the drainage process and river canalization have been supported by a large program of dam construction upstream of the Gharb Plain. The wetland loss estimate highlights the substantial ecological costs of agricultural intensification and underscores the need for integrated management strategies balancing food production and patrimony conservation. Future research should focus on wetland restoration, ecosystem service assessment, and climate-resilient water management in Mediterranean floodplains.","地中海洪泛平原湿地是最具生产力的生态系统之一，却日益受到农业集约化与水文改造的威胁。
"H3","irrigation","水资源与灌溉","/topic/environment/irrigation",[110
[114,120,125
[],[49,123],"ecosystem service",[30,103,101
"W7222966485",[140,143,145,148
Mohamed Dakki","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8042-3972
Said El Falah
Ibrahim Makrane","https://orcid.org/0009-0002-9201-206X
Ismail Mansouri","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3679-6050
,"2026-10-20T23:30:19.135602Z
5096,"Land Cover Change, Ecosystem Service Implications, and Economy–Land Use Decoupling:","https://doi.org/10.14246/irspsd.14.4_186","Land cover change plays a critical role in shaping watershed ecological conditions and supporting regional economic activities. Remote sensing and GIS were used to map and quantify land cover changes, while sectoral Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data for agriculture, forestry, and fisheries represented economic performance. Economy–land use interactions were assessed using the Tapio decoupling elasticity index. Economy–land use interactions were assessed using the Tapio decoupling elasticity index as a retrospective empirical measure based on observed changes in land cover and sectoral GRDP over the study periods. The results show increasing sectoral GRDP accompanied by relatively limited changes in dominant land cover classes. Absolute decoupling was observed during 2014–2019, relative decoupling during 2019–2024, and overall absolute decoupling for 2014–2024, indicating that economic growth was not proportionally associated with large-scale land conversion. Spatial analysis reveals localized landscape transformations, including mangrove degradation, settlement expansion, and plantation growth, which signal emerging pressures on environmentally sensitive areas. This is a particular challenge in the Brazilian Cerrado, the world's most biodiverse savanna biome and a region experiencing a rapid expansion of agriculture. To inform habitat conservation and restoration actions, we used the Red List of Ecosystems (RLE) framework to identify threatened ecosystems within the Cerrado. This biome is divided into 20 ecoregions, and we subdivided each ecoregion into forest, savanna, grassland, and wetland ecosystems. We used remote sensing data from 1985 to 2020 to measure and predict the distribution of each ecosystem and assess its risk of collapse based on Criterion A2b (reduction in geographic distribution over any 50‐year period), Criterion B1 (limited extent of occurrence), and Criterion B2 (limited area of occupancy). Of the 80 ecosystems comprising the Cerrado, we assessed 12 as Endangered and 43 as Vulnerable. Most of these threatened ecosystems were identified under Criterion A2b, while Criterion B identified a smaller subset of spatially restricted ecosystems, particularly wetlands, underscoring the importance of applying more than one criterion in the assessment process. By using the Red List of Ecosystems as an international standard, we provide the first globally comparable analysis of the state of the Cerrado, showing that nearly three‐quarters of the region's ecosystems are at risk of collapse. These environments are critical for West Africa's biodiversity conservation, hydrological regulation and livelihoods. However, they are increasingly threatened by pressures such as climate variability, agricultural expansion, urbanization, over-exploitation of natural resources and hydromorphological alterations. Despite their ecological and socio-economic importance, scientific knowledge on their potential flora and fauna and on their ecosystem services is fragmented and insufficiently structured, especially when considering river confluence areas. This systematic review aims at critically reviewing the existing knowledge on biodiversity dynamics and ecosystem services in the light of the anthropogenic and climatic pressures affecting river confluence zones in West Africa. The research strategy is reproducible, based on the Scopus database, and dimensions (1996-2026), and resulted in a final corpus of 52 documents after applying the ROSES protocol. The results show an increasing scientific interest, since 60.9% of the publications were published after 2016. The most reported factors are flood regimes (61.5%) and agriculture (28.4%), while the methodological frameworks are dominated by remote sensing approaches. Key gaps remain on integration of socio-economic dimensions, participatory methods and knowledge on confluence dynamics. These findings emphasize the necessity of shifting the research paradigm to one that is more interdisciplinary and integrated, which is critical for providing the basis for effective conservation policies adapted to the specific challenges facing West African river confluence ecosystems.","河流交汇区被认为是关键生态系统，具有高度的空间异质性、较高的生物生产力以及对当地社区重要的社会经济价值。 ,"Moroccan Journal of Agricultural Sciences","https://www.techagro.org/index.php/MJAS/article/view/1205","2026-10-05T00:00:00Z",61
"W7215676096",[324
Hounnandé Olivier KPODEKON
,"2026-10-06T23:30:19.761020Z
2434,"Integrated geoenvironmental analysis of the Gandu River sub-basin (Bahia, Brazil): interactions among landscape, water resources, and Atlantic Forest conservation","https://doi.org/10.55905/rdelosv19.n86-003","Drainage basins are fundamental units for integrated environmental studies, as they represent complex systems in which physical, biological, and socioeconomic components establish interdependent relationships that shape landscape organization and functioning. In this context, this research aims to conduct an integrated geoenvironmental analysis of the Gandu River sub-basin, located in the municipalities of Gandu, Nova Ibiá, and Wenceslau Guimarães, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, within the phytogeographic domain of the Atlantic Forest. The investigation is based on a systemic approach, the geosystem perspective, and the principles of Landscape Ecology, considering the relationships between natural elements and forms of land use and territorial occupation. The methodological procedures involved bibliographic research, cartographic analysis, geoprocessing techniques in a GIS environment, and the preparation of thematic maps related to location, geology, geomorphology, hypsometry, slope, pedology, drainage network, land use and land cover, and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The results show that the environmental dynamics of the sub-basin are directly related to geological, geomorphological, pedological, and hydrological characteristics, which influence infiltration processes, surface runoff, and the distribution of vegetation cover. A predominance of areas associated with secondary vegetation and agroforestry systems was observed, especially the cacao-cabruca system, which is important for maintaining regional ecological connectivity. However, landscape fragmentation resulting from the expansion of agricultural and livestock activities and changes in land use represents a threat to biodiversity conservation and the stability of environmental systems. Therefore, integrated geoenvironmental analysis is a fundamental tool for supporting land-use planning strategies, water resource conservation, recovery of degraded areas, and the implementation of ecological corridors in the context of the Atlantic Forest of Bahia.","流域是综合环境研究的基本单元，因其代表了物理、生物和社会经济组分之间建立相互依存关系、塑造景观组织与功能的复杂系统。 ,"DELOS Desarrollo Local Sostenible","2026-09-11T00:00:00Z
[
[352,356,363,370,375,381,385
[],[28,34],[346,345
"B3",[],[360,361],"可可","cacao",[
"C",[],[367,368],"畜牧","livestock",[
[],[118,373],"water resource",[
[],[193],[
"W7212359574",[397,399
Ariel Moura Vilas Boas
Marcelo Araújo da Nóbrega","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8532-0630","https://ojs.revistadelos.com/ojs/index.php/delos/article/download/10122/5532
,"2026-09-14T23:30:27.425323Z
1272,"Biodiversity isn’t measured in tons: Making sense of nature in the context of sustainable agriculture","https://doi.org/10.32942/x28t1r","In this review, we articulate several important, but often overlooked concepts, trends, and perspectives in the biodiversity monitoring space, specifically in the context of transforming agriculture and the wider food system. We describe the common approaches to biodiversity monitoring — those focused on species, communities, functions, habitats, etc — and the methods and tools commonly used to track change. We then describe a set of fundamental ecological principles that are often overlooked by practitioners entering the agrobiodiversity space for the first time, particularly those with technical, industrial, and policy expertise in agriculture-adjacent fields who seek to incorporate biodiversity into their research and operations. For these practitioners, we discuss the importance of abundance, the timelines along which population trends can be quantitatively established, the geographical scales at which ecological interactions play out, and the implications therein for anyone looking to monitor the effect of farm management practices. We attempt to describe the complexities that arise when navigating the intersection of ecological, agricultural, and social systems, highlighting the multiple sets of voices, values, and priorities that come into play in this space. From intergovernmental panels to individual farmers, the agrobiodiversity space holds a multitude of arenas of where decisions are made. We raise the question of “why, how, and for whom are we monitoring biodiversity?” to encourage practitioners new to this space to consider the implications of their approach. Finally, we discuss the conflicts and trade-offs that emerge in the intersection of productivity, profits, carbon and biodiversity, and explore the challenges in finding a balance between them in the transition toward a more sustainable form of agriculture.","OpenAlex","2026-08-28T00:00:00Z",73
[426
"H8","sustainable-agriculture","可持续与保护性农业","/topic/environment/sustainable-agriculture
[434,438
[34],[34],[27,28
"W7204518041",[451,454
Iqbal Singh Bhalla","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5611-8361
Philip Loring","https://ecoevorxiv.org/repository/object/14661/download/25513/
