This region serves as a critical buffer against the southward expansion of the Sahara, yet it faces unprecedented land degradation. This study employed a systematic review methodology aligned with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses) guidelines. Empirical evidence was synthesized from 68 peer-reviewed articles, technical reports, and satellite-based studies published between 2000 and 2024. Databases searched included Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, African Journals Online (AJOL), and government repositories. Findings indicate an alarming acceleration of forest loss and desert encroachment. Annual deforestation rates are estimated between 2.5% and 4.0%, significantly higher than the national average of 0.6% to 1.0%. Key drivers include the conversion of woodlands to subsistence agriculture, unsustainable exploitation of forest resources for biomass energy, demographic pressures, and climatic variability. The consequences are profound, threatening food systems, water security, biodiversity, and livelihoods. Deforestation and desertification constitute critical barriers to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), with severe downstream effects on SDGs 1, 2, 3, 6, and 16. Effective reversal of these trends requires an integrated, SDG-aligned approach centered on sustainable land management (SLM), climate-smart agriculture (CSA), clean energy adoption, and inclusive governance frameworks.","尼日利亚西北部地处脆弱的苏丹—萨赫勒生态带，正经历一场以森林砍伐和荒漠化协同作用为特征的加速环境危机。 ,null,"IIARD INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT","2026-09-16T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,80
"H6","biodiversity","生态保护与生物多样性","/topic/environment/biodiversity","H",[
"classified","2026-10-22.2","rules
45,52,59,65,70
"I1",[],[63],"smart agriculture",[
"H7",[],[],[26
"I3",[],[],[27],[76,77],"可持续土地管理 气候智慧农业 荒漠化防治 毁林治理","可持续土地管理 气候智慧农业","可持续土地管理气候智慧农业荒漠化防治毁林治理-2636",2,"10.56201/ijgem.vol.12.no2.2026.pg151.158
"W7213238638",[84
F.U. However, this fragile dryland ecosystem is increasingly threatened by armed conflict, large-scale displacement, land use changes, and environmental degradation. Therefore, this study assessed the status of GAB and gum production under conflict-induced stressors using an integrated methodology that combines meteorological, remote sensing, and participatory field survey data. Multi-temporal MODIS NDVI data (2000–2023) were analyzed to detect spatiotemporal changes in vegetation cover, particularly during peak growing seasons. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) trends were evaluated using five-year intervals, except for the last period (2020–2023) to accommodate the eco-anthropogenic signs of the current war. The results reveal that vegetation recovery across large portions of the GAB is correlated with land abandonment due to ongoing conflict and locals’ displacement. Across all assessed years, moderate vegetation class consistently dominated the landscape, particularly in 2020 and 2023, indicating a notable improvement in vegetation cover in recent years. A significant variation was observed in Gum yield, with higher production in 2005. The study underscores the urgent need for target restoration strategies and sustainable management policies. It also demonstrates the value of integrating earth observation data with local knowledge systems for conflict-sensitive environmental monitoring and policy formation in dryland regions.","摘要 苏丹的阿拉伯胶带（Gum Arabic Belt, GAB）在维持农村生计、支持生物多样性和提供关键生态系统服务方面发挥着重要作用。 ,"Scientific Reports","2026-09-18T00:00:00Z",77
[121
"remote-sensing","遥感与农情监测","/topic/digital-agriculture/remote-sensing","I
[129,134
"W7213533975",[148,151,153
Elmugheira M. In North Africa, most of these wetlands have been converted to agricultural lands using an extensive ‘drainage–irrigation’ process that has irreversibly degraded them. This study documents this loss through the illustrative example of the Gharb Plain in the northwest of Morocco. The agricultural development process of this plain, initiated in 1927 and only recently completed, is documented by both historical maps and remote sensing data, which we combined to reconstruct the simultaneous wetland decline and agriculture extension. The results reveal a dramatic decline in marshland ecosystems, covering about 88% of the original marshlands in less than one cycle. Several wetlands, including large ones, have entirely disappeared, particularly within the Sebou and Baht river floodplains. To ensure their human occupation, the drainage process and river canalization have been supported by a large program of dam construction upstream of the Gharb Plain. The wetland loss estimate highlights the substantial ecological costs of agricultural intensification and underscores the need for integrated management strategies balancing food production and patrimony conservation. Future research should focus on wetland restoration, ecosystem service assessment, and climate-resilient water management in Mediterranean floodplains.","地中海洪泛平原湿地是最具生产力的生态系统之一，却日益受到农业集约化与水文改造的威胁。
"irrigation","水资源与灌溉","/topic/environment/irrigation",[252
[256,261,266
[],[132,264],"ecosystem service",[245,246,243
"W7222966485",[279,282,284,287
Mohamed Dakki","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8042-3972
Said El Falah
Ibrahim Makrane","https://orcid.org/0009-0002-9201-206X
Ismail Mansouri","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3679-6050
,"2026-10-20T23:30:19.135602Z
5096,"Land Cover Change, Ecosystem Service Implications, and Economy–Land Use Decoupling:","https://doi.org/10.14246/irspsd.14.4_186","Land cover change plays a critical role in shaping watershed ecological conditions and supporting regional economic activities. This study analyzes land cover dynamics in the Tiworo Watershed, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, for 2014, 2019, and 2024, and examines their relationship with sectoral economic growth. Remote sensing and GIS were used to map and quantify land cover changes, while sectoral Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data for agriculture, forestry, and fisheries represented economic performance. Economy–land use interactions were assessed using the Tapio decoupling elasticity index. Economy–land use interactions were assessed using the Tapio decoupling elasticity index as a retrospective empirical measure based on observed changes in land cover and sectoral GRDP over the study periods. The results show increasing sectoral GRDP accompanied by relatively limited changes in dominant land cover classes. Absolute decoupling was observed during 2014–2019, relative decoupling during 2019–2024, and overall absolute decoupling for 2014–2024, indicating that economic growth was not proportionally associated with large-scale land conversion. Spatial analysis reveals localized landscape transformations, including mangrove degradation, settlement expansion, and plantation growth, which signal emerging pressures on environmentally sensitive areas. Although ecosystem services are not directly valued, land cover change is interpreted as an indicator of ecological pressure with implications for provisioning ecosystem services. These findings highlight the importance of integrating land-use monitoring and economic indicators to support adaptive watershed management, spatial planning, and sustainable development.","土地覆盖变化在塑造流域生态状况和支撑区域经济活动方面发挥着关键作用。 ,"International Review for Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development","2026-10-14T00:00:00Z",63
[314
"I4","gis","GIS与空间分析","/topic/digital-agriculture/gis
[322,326,334,338
[264],[132],[245,132
GIS","spatial analysis",[311
[],[137,138],[27
"W7221789653",[352,355,358,361
Safril Kasim","https://orcid.org/0009-0009-4679-4233
Hasddin Hasddin","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0114-5274
La Fariki","https://orcid.org/0009-0003-7870-9028
Abhishek Agarwal","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0900-6383","https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/irspsd/14/4/14_9/_pdf
,"2026-10-16T23:30:28.687070Z
4821,"Producing a Red List of Ecosystems for the Brazilian Cerrado","https://doi.org/10.1111/csp2.70426","Abstract Land clearance is a key driver of biodiversity loss. This is a particular challenge in the Brazilian Cerrado, the world's most biodiverse savanna biome and a region experiencing a rapid expansion of agriculture. To inform habitat conservation and restoration actions, we used the Red List of Ecosystems (RLE) framework to identify threatened ecosystems within the Cerrado. This biome is divided into 20 ecoregions, and we subdivided each ecoregion into forest, savanna, grassland, and wetland ecosystems. We used remote sensing data from 1985 to 2020 to measure and predict the distribution of each ecosystem and assess its risk of collapse based on Criterion A2b (reduction in geographic distribution over any 50‐year period), Criterion B1 (limited extent of occurrence), and Criterion B2 (limited area of occupancy). Of the 80 ecosystems comprising the Cerrado, we assessed 12 as Endangered and 43 as Vulnerable. Most of these threatened ecosystems were identified under Criterion A2b, while Criterion B identified a smaller subset of spatially restricted ecosystems, particularly wetlands, underscoring the importance of applying more than one criterion in the assessment process. By using the Red List of Ecosystems as an international standard, we provide the first globally comparable analysis of the state of the Cerrado, showing that nearly three‐quarters of the region's ecosystems are at risk of collapse. This information provides a baseline to inform local policy and practice, helping to conserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem services within this globally important region.","土地开垦是生物多样性丧失的主要驱动因素。 ,"Conservation Science and Practice","2026-10-12T00:00:00Z",81
"W7221517508",[409,412
Juliana Ávila Martins","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5465-8276
Robert J. Although agriculture remains central to national food security, employment and rural livelihoods, the ecological, economic and institutional systems that sustain agricultural production are under increasing pressure. Climate variability, land degradation, biodiversity loss, demographic change, market volatility and institutional constraints are interacting in ways that threaten both agricultural productivity and the resilience of rural communities. These challenges are deeply interconnected and cannot be addressed through isolated sectoral interventions or yield-focused agricultural policies alone. This paper examines the regeneration of rural futures through the lens of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), arguing that CSA should be understood not merely as a collection of improved farming practices but as an integrated systems framework for rural transformation. Drawing upon contemporary scholarship in climate science, agricultural development, resilience studies, ecological restoration, rural sociology and institutional governance, the paper explores how climate-smart approaches can contribute simultaneously to agricultural productivity, climate resilience, environmental sustainability and inclusive rural prosperity. Focusing on Nigeria, the analysis examines the country’s diverse agroecological zones, evolving climate risks, smallholder farming systems, demographic transitions and institutional landscape. The paper demonstrates that effective climate-smart strategies must be locally adaptive while remaining aligned with nationally coherent development objectives. It argues that Nigeria’s long-term agricultural competitiveness will depend less on expanding cultivated land and more on improving the resilience, productivity and sustainability of existing farming systems through knowledge-intensive innovation, ecosystem restoration, digital technologies, strengthened rural institutions and integrated value chain development. The paper further contends that sustainable rural transformation requires moving beyond fragmented development projects towards Rural Resilience Ecosystems in which agriculture, environmental management, community institutions, infrastructure, digital technologies, enterprise development and knowledge systems function as mutually reinforcing components of a coherent development strategy. Within this framework, the Climate-Smart Farmer Hub is presented as an operational example of how climate-smart agriculture, rural innovation, environmental stewardship and community capacity development can be integrated within locally responsive institutional systems that support broader national objectives for sustainable agricultural transformation and climate resilience. The paper concludes that Regenerating Rural Futures provides a useful systems-oriented paradigm for understanding how ecological integrity, economic opportunity, institutional effectiveness and community wellbeing can be strengthened simultaneously. By integrating contemporary scholarship with the realities of Nigerian agriculture and an original community-centred institutional framework, the study contributes an evidence-informed analytical perspective for advancing climate-smart agriculture, rural resilience and sustainable rural transformation in Nigeria and comparable development contexts.","尼日利亚农村正处在一个决定性的十字路口。 Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)",25,78
"climate","气候适应与防灾减灾","/topic/environment/climate
[457,463,468,472,477,483,489,493
[465],"climate resilience",[465],[26
[63],[63],[439
"G2",[],[481],"smallholder",[
"W7221462831",[506
Franklin N.
