Yet the dual identity of fisheries—as both food and a managed natural resource—creates a complex landscape for understanding how seafood moves from water to consumer. This study represents one of the first coordinated efforts to map the United States’ Great Lakes seafood value and supply chains. Using state agency data requests, informal interviews, and a nine-state online survey conducted in 2024, we identified aquaculture farms, commercial fishers, and seafood processors, documented regulatory authorities and their disparities, and examined market dynamics and access to locally sourced seafood. Four key findings illustrate the intricacy of the U.S. Great Lakes seafood food system. First, seafood-related data are limited, inconsistently collected, and not comparable across jurisdictions. Second, the seafood supply chain management is exceptionally complex, shaped by fragmented regulatory authorities and species-specific production systems. Third, processors outnumber producers nearly two to one, raising questions about supply origins and reliance on imported seafood. Fourth, regulatory restrictions, product availability, and distribution costs may be the biggest barriers for accessing locally produced seafood. We suggest that these findings demonstrate that Great Lakes fish play five primary roles—food, finances, fun, function, and fellowship – which shape the structure, governance, and performance of the Great Lakes seafood system. Strengthening this system offers opportunities to enhance food security, support local economies, and sustain the cultural heritage tied to Great Lakes fish culture in all of its forms.","五大湖地区拥有全球超过20%的地表淡水，并支撑着一个在文化、经济和生态方面均具有重要意义的海洋食品产业。 ,null,"Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems","2026-09-16T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,81
"classified","2026-10-22.2","rules
44,53,60,65
"W7213432586",[79,81,83,85,87,89,91,93,95,97
Lauren N. A resilient agricultural industry chain is critical to ensuring a stable food supply, yet empirical evidence on how firm-level digital technology innovation enhances such resilience remains scarce. Using micro-level data from Chinese agricultural firms over the period 2010–2025, which comprise 69 listed agricultural firms with 714 firm-year unbalanced panel observations, this study examines the impact of digital technology innovation on agricultural industry chain resilience. The results show that digital technology innovation significantly improves chain resilience, a finding that remains robust across multiple tests. Mediation analysis confirms that this effect operates through firm operational efficiency and market expectations. Heterogeneity analysis is conducted along two dimensions, namely regional heterogeneity and firm heterogeneity. Significant positive effects are found in eastern regions, urban agglomerations, and non-old-industrial bases from the regional perspective, and in non-state-owned, large-scale, and mature enterprises from the firm perspective. These findings provide empirical evidence for food-security-oriented policies that promote agricultural digitalization while addressing structural weak links in the food system.

## Yield","https://doi.org/10.3390/su182010656","Improving the resilience of the agricultural industry chain to frequent external shocks and the intertwined agricultural production risks is critical for ensuring national food security and sustainable agricultural development. Taking the 16 prefecture-level cities in Anhui Province—a major grain-producing region in China—as the research sample, two composite proxy indices were constructed in this study; namely, an agricultural industry chain resilience index built upon aggregate official statistics (rather than direct observed shock-response outcomes) and an index capturing broad rural digital development instead of purely agriculture-specific digital adoption. Based on balanced panel data from 2015 to 2024, two-way fixed-effect, mediation-effect, and panel-threshold models were adopted in this study to examine the association, mediating mechanism, regional heterogeneity, and threshold characteristics conditioned on the relative grain yield. The empirical results show that the rural-oriented digital development index is significantly and robustly positively associated with our composite agricultural industry chain resilience proxy. Although agricultural TFP exhibits a statistically detectable partial mediating pattern in this correlational relationship, the economic magnitude of this indirect channel is extremely modest. As such, this finding indicates a potential theoretical transmission pathway rather than providing definitive empirical evidence for a causal mechanism. The promotion effect exhibits clear regional heterogeneity, with the strongest effect in Northern Anhui, followed by Central Anhui, while the coefficient is positive but insignificant in Southern Anhui. Furthermore, a single-threshold effect of the relative grain yield is identified; that is, the positive association between rural-oriented digital development and resilience proxy cannot be statistically detected when the grain yield remains below the threshold. Only after the agricultural grain yield increases can digital-related rural development release its resilience-related empowering dividends. We note that both composite indices are subject to measurement constraints linked to the local agricultural economic scale and broad rural digital conditions; these limitations are further discussed in the paper. This study provides empirical correlational evidence for the implementation of differentiated digital agriculture policies in major grain-producing provinces.","提升农业产业链对频繁外部冲击与交织叠加的农业生产风险的韧性，对保障国家粮食安全和农业可持续发展至关重要。
[
[338,342,347,352,357
[],[57,58],[57
[],[330,345],"digital agriculture",[330
[],[278,350],"rural development",[
"W7223005655",[369,372,374,376
Lan Ma","https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2468-9917
Yuyan Li
Yaoyao Li
,"2026-10-21T23:30:29.219265Z
5478,"Characterisation of Food Security Situation for Smallholder Farmers in Zvimba","https://doi.org/10.71458/rx0qpm30","This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the food security situation among smallholder farmers (SHFs) in Zvimba District, Zimbabwe. Smallholder agriculture is the bedrock of Zimbabwe's food system, yet it remains highly vulnerable to a complex array of shocks and stressors. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research investigates the prevalence, drivers and lived experiences of food insecurity within this community. A structured survey was administered to 412 randomly selected smallholder households across the district's wards. The quantitative data were supplemented by 12 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and 24 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with farmers, community leaders and agricultural extension officers to capture qualitative nuances. The study is grounded in the Food Security Theory (FST), which conceptualises food security through its four pillars: food availability, food access, food utilisation and food stability. Findings reveal a precarious food security situation. Quantitatively, 78.4% of households were found to be food insecure, with an average Hunger Months Index of 4.7 months per year. The study identifies a significant disconnect between maize production, the national staple and household consumption, with over 65% of households failing to produce enough maize to meet their annual requirements. Qualitative data illuminated the multi-faceted drivers of this insecurity. Key points to note include climate change whereby erratic rainfall and prolonged mid-season dry spells were consistently reported as the primary production challenges, limited access to farming inputs whereby high costs and unreliable supplies of certified seeds, fertilizers and agro[1]chemicals constrain productivity. Morelso, socio-economic factors such as poverty, lack of viable alternative livelihoods and limited access to formal credit perpetuate a cycle of vulnerability. In addition, institutional weaknesses, for example, challenges with agricultural extension services and market inefficiencies, exacerbate the situation. The study concludes that food insecurity in Zvimba is not merely a problem of food production, but is deeply rooted in structural issues affecting food access, food utilisation, as well as food stability. Recommendations are proposed for a multi-sectoral approach, including promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and drought-resistant crops, strengthening input support systems and rural finance, diversifying livelihood strategies and enhancing the capacity of extension services. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the localised dynamics of food security and provides evidence-based guidance for policymakers, development practitioners and the farmers of Zvimba themselves.","本研究对津巴布韦兹维姆巴区小农户（smallholder farmers, SHFs）的粮食安全状况进行了全面分析。 Ngenani The Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti Journal of Community Engagement and Societal Transformations",55
[403,408
"G2","farm-services","社会化服务与规模经营","/topic/rural-services/farm-services
"H7","climate","气候适应与防灾减灾","/topic/environment/climate","H
[417,421,426,434,440,445,452
[58],[57,58],[57
[423],"smallholder",[397,423],[397
"G1",[],[399,438],"agricultural extension",[399
[],[208,443],"maize",[
"W7223029383",[465,468,471
Casper Myambo","https://orcid.org/0009-0007-8625-7526
Chipo Plaxedes Mubaya","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4123-0238
Patience Mutopo
5475,"Adoption of Climate-Smart Conservation Agriculture in Improving Food Security in Zimbabwe: The Case of Marondera District, Zimbabwe","https://doi.org/10.71458/wby9rf15","Climate change is negatively impacting the global community and local communities in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Extreme weather events are occurring more frequently, posing a threat to human lives and well-being. Climate change-induced disasters have exacerbated the risks of hunger and under nutrition through reduced yields of agricultural crops. The detrimental effects of climate change are particularly seen in Zimbabwe. It is best to use climate-smart agriculture (CSA) in the smallholder agricultural sector, which produces the majority of the nation's food. Therefore, it is important to learn lessons from past events and manage risks effectively as part of an integrated set of interventions directed at mitigating the harmful impacts of disasters and risks. The research explores community adaptation and coping strategies in addressing the effects of climate change on food security using Marondera District as a case study. The research was conducted using the qualitative research methodology. Data were collected from a population of 50 people that included smallscale farmers, Agritex officers, extension officers, non-governmental organisation (NGO) representatives, village herdsman and the chief. Documentary research was analysed thematically. The research concludes that climate change has had a negative impact on food security. It affected all the four dimensions of food security, that is; food availability, food accessibility, food utilisation and food systems stability. In response, various projects aimed at ensuring community resilience to cope in the face of climatological hazards have been implemented by NGOs, government institutions and other actors, with community members being key stakeholder. The research recommends continued mobilisation of social protection interventions, building of resilient agricultural systems to make them more resilient to climate change and improving the management of the environment to ensure effectiveness in efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change on food security.","气候变化正在对全球社会以及南部非洲发展共同体（SADC）区域的当地社区产生负面影响。
57,397,398,400
[494
"sustainable-agriculture","可持续与保护性农业","/topic/environment/sustainable-agriculture
[501,505,510,514,518,522
[58],[57,58],[57
[507],"conservation agriculture",[],[
[],[429,431],[398
[],[423],[397
[],[455],[
"W7223010488",[536,539
Irony Mazuruse","https://orcid.org/0009-0007-5600-7825
Judith Chokumanyara","https://orcid.org/0009-0000-7386-9960
,"2026-10-21T23:30:08.757283Z"]
