This flexibility is valuable, but creates a less visible problem: if reference conditions (comparators), sampling, measurements or research questions change during the process, the scientific claim may no longer be supported in the same way. OBJECTIVE We propose controlled flexibility as a framework for keeping evidence scientifically interpretable while preserving the adaptiveness and co-creation that make LLs useful. METHODS This Perspective focuses on quantitative, experimental and structured observational research embedded within LLs. It distinguishes two questions that are often conflated: did the LL generate useful learning or change, and can the resulting data support a specific scientific claim?, thus differentiating between “evaluation for impact” and “evidence for publication”. Systems thinking helps match the measurements to the claimed level of change. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS The framework separates a protected evidential core (research question and claim, analytical unit, comparator or case-selection logic, core indicators, sampling rules, metadata, analysis plan and model of change) from elements that may be adapted locally. Decision logs, deviation records, shared scientific rationale and data audits make adaptations visible. If a change affects the evidence supporting the claim, a new claim version is defined before further analysis. SIGNIFICANCE Controlled flexibility offers a practical way to remain adaptive without weakening scientific credibility. It helps LLs produce evidence that is transparent, proportionate to the claim and publishable, without sacrificing co-creation and situated learning.","背景 生活实验室（Living Labs, LLs）将农业研究带入现实场景，使研究者与实践者能够在条件变化时共同创造、测试和调整解决方案。 ,null,"Agricultural Systems","2026-10-02T00:00:00Z","论文",10,false,68
"unclassified","2026-10-22.2","rules
[38,43
"I1",[],[],[26
"I6",[],[],[27],true,"缺少足够的主题证据",[51,52],"Living Labs 农业研究","controlled flexibility 科研","LivingLabs农业研究-4045",0,"10.1016/j.agsy.2026.105001
"W7216180303",[59,61,64,66,68,70,72,74,76,79,81,83,85,87,89
Beatrix Alsanius
Liselot Bourgeois","https://orcid.org/0009-0008-8426-5706
Saskia Buysens
Thibault Cloet
Christina Elshoff
Lisa Heyman
Jérôme Lambion
Anne-Violette Lavoir
Mira Lehberger","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7756-9519
Anna Karin Rosberg
Denise Sewkaransing
An Van De Walle
Elien Van den Bossche
Hélène Védie
Gerben Messelink
,"openalex","2026-10-03T23:30:05.152391Z
6,[102,185,267,339,413,483
4663,"Sensor Data Transmission in Smart Agriculture: Challenges, Potentials, and Limitations in the Fourth Industrial Revolution","https://doi.org/10.3390/signals7050098","Smart agriculture is a key application domain of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), where cyber–physical systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and data-driven analytics converge to improve productivity, sustainability, and resource efficiency. In this context, large volumes of sensor data collected in the field form the basis for automated monitoring, decision support, and adaptive control across agricultural processes. However, the value of such data depends not only on sensing technologies and connectivity, but also on how data are generated, transferred, processed, and interpreted throughout their lifecycle. This paper is organized in two parts. The first part reports a narrative review of the literature, based on a documented search protocol, and provides an overview of sensor data and sensor data transmission networks in smart agriculture. It examines the main challenges, potentials, and limitations associated with IoT-based field deployments in 4IR environments, and consolidates them into ten open problems. These problems are ordered from the device layer to the socio-economic layer and span physical robustness, device security, rural connectivity, aerial sensing, interoperability, labelled-data scarcity, explainability, federated access control, data ownership, and cost. The second part responds to these open problems with the conceptualization of a layered architecture and a set of design proposals, covering hierarchical edge security, offline-first synchronization, semantic interoperability, explainable decision support, and farmer-centric data governance, that are grounded in established techniques and standards but have not been implemented or empirically validated in this work; they are intended as a design blueprint and a starting point for future prototyping and evaluation rather than as measured results. The paper is accordingly positioned as a conceptual, perspective-oriented contribution: it states the procedure by which the open problems were derived from the reviewed works, it states what the proposed integration is claimed to add over existing smart-agriculture architectures, and it sets out an evaluation plan that fixes the metrics and the baselines against which each proposed component would have to be tested. Throughout both parts, particular attention is given to the role of data integrity and provenance as foundational elements for trustworthy agricultural data, enabling reliable analysis, auditability, and long-term reuse. By synthesizing current approaches, open issues, and conceptual solution patterns, this paper aims to support the design of resilient, transparent, and future-ready smart agriculture systems aligned with the principles of the 4IR.","智慧农业是第四次工业革命（4IR）的关键应用领域，信息物理系统、物联网（IoT）和数据驱动分析在此汇聚，以提升生产力、可持续性和资源效率。
"I5","agricultural-iot","物联网传感与边缘计算","/topic/digital-agriculture/agricultural-iot","I",[
"classified
133,138,145,152
[135],"smart agriculture",[26,135],[26
[],[141,142,143],"物联网","internet of things","IoT",[120
"I2",4,[],[150],"decision support",[119
"W7221365687",[165,167,170,173,175
Alvertos Ioannis Mourikis
Iosif Polenakis","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6427-5519
Christos Sarantidis","https://orcid.org/0009-0003-9486-8483
Romanos Kalamatianos
Ioannis Karydis","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9470-2729
,"2026-10-11T23:30:08.094185Z
3806,"Data Management in Agricultural Enterprises: A Framework for Data-Driven Decision Support","https://doi.org/10.7160/aol.2026.180305","The growing digitalisation of agriculture is leading to a rapid increase in the volume of data produced by agricultural enterprises; however, its practical use is often limited by fragmented data sources, varying data quality, insufficient metadata, and inconsistent storage and management practices. The aim of this article is to propose a practical framework for the systematic management of data in agricultural enterprises to support its long-term availability, reuse, and integration into decision-making processes. The proposed approach is based on four interlinked steps: identifying data needs and issues, creating and recording a data inventory, drawing up a Data Management Plan (DMP), and implementing it in practice. The framework links technical aspects of data management – such as data formats, metadata, quality, integrity, security, backup and archiving – with the definition of responsibilities for individual staff members and farm (agricultural enterprise) management. For practical implementation, two basic approaches to data storage are distinguished: file systems and data platforms or repositories. The more advanced platform-based approach enables the centralisation of heterogeneous data sources, the automation of their transfer and processing, and subsequently the integration of the acquired data with analytical tools and decision-support systems. The proposed framework thus represents a path from the isolated collection of operational data to its systematic management and utilisation as a long-term information source for both operational and strategic decision-making within an agricultural enterprise.","农业日益数字化，导致农业企业产生的数据量迅速增加；然而，其实际应用往往受限于数据来源分散、数据质量参差不齐、元数据不足以及存储和管理实践不一致。 ,"Agris on-line Papers in Economics and Informatics","2026-09-28T00:00:00Z",67
"agricultural-ai","农业AI与大模型","/topic/digital-agriculture/agricultural-ai",[
[212,217,222
9,[150],[],[202
2,[],[],[201,26
"W7214583099",[234,237,240,243,246,248,251,253,256,258
Michal Stočes","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7128-1071
Jan Jarolímek","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7194-3055
Irena Benešová","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9381-063X
Pavel Šimek","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9244-1476
Zdeňka Žáková Kroupová
Ludmila Pánková","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8861-4733
Jiří Vaněk
Eva Kánská","https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5249-6405
Martin Havránek
Anderle Michael
3781,"A Big Data Curation Framework for Precision Agriculture: Actions, Actors and Challenges in the Indian Context","https://doi.org/10.9734/ajaar/2026/v26i10763","Precision agriculture produces large volumes of heterogeneous data from IoT sensor networks, satellite imagery, unmanned aerial surveys, crop registries and weather stations. India has committed substantial public investment to agricultural data infrastructure under the Digital Agriculture Mission, which by August 2026 had generated more than 10.31 crore Farmer IDs and surveyed over 31 crore plots. No published framework specifies what curation these data require, which institutions are responsible for each activity, or what obstacles arise in the Indian operating environment. This study develops such a framework through a systematic review of 214 sources published between January 2015 and August 2026, drawn from five bibliographic databases and supplemented by Government of India policy documents. Two coders agreed on 88.5 per cent of coding decisions for a random subsample of 50 records. The framework specifies curation actions at eight stages of the agricultural data lifecycle, assigns each action to one or more of nine institutional actor categories, and documents the associated challenges. Three findings distinguish precision agriculture from the general big data case: raster imagery requires curation procedures with no counterpart in text or sensor-stream data; machine-learning models function as curation objects rather than analytical tools alone; and metadata operating only in English cannot support a national agricultural data system in a country with 22 scheduled languages, a requirement now given legal force by the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules 2025. Those Rules, notified in November 2025, impose consent, erasure and breach-notification obligations that apply across the full data lifecycle rather than at the point of collection alone. The framework gives agricultural universities, ICAR institutes and state departments a basis for assigning data management roles and planning curation training. Because it rests on published literature and policy documents, it has not yet been tested against current institutional practice.","精准农业通过物联网传感器网络、卫星影像、无人机航测、作物登记系统和气象站产生大量异构数据。 ,"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research",84
ID-3781","10.9734/ajaar/2026/v26i10763
"W7214617849",[325,328,331
Suresh Kumar Sharma","https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5054-6170
Parul Dhull","https://orcid.org/0009-0005-8368-3058
Pratibha Manohar
,"2026-09-29T23:30:15.187320Z
3621,"Beyond Precision Agriculture: AI and Data-driven Information Systems as Catalysts for Sustainable Agribusiness Transformation","https://doi.org/10.56557/jgembr/2026/v18i311156","The dominant narrative in digital agriculture centres on discrete technologies, including sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles, global positioning systems, remote sensing, and machine learning, evaluated primarily for their capacity to increase yields and improve input-use efficiency. This narrows the analytical lens to the farm gate and understates a more consequential shift: individual technologies generate value for agribusiness only when information systems capture, integrate, and route the data they produce into real operational and strategic decisions. This review critically examines the AI- and data-driven agribusiness transformation literature through a single organising pathway: data, analytics, artificial intelligence, information systems, decisions, sustainable agribusiness outcomes; it asks whether the field's technical achievements have matched comparable progress in systems integration and governance. A transparent narrative search and appraisal protocol synthesised evidence across ten thematic domains: agricultural big-data integration, predictive and prescriptive analytics, farm management information systems (FMIS), AI-enabled supply-chain analytics, climate-risk adaptation, sustainability and ESG analytics, data governance and cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and adoption, circular agriculture, and decision-support systems. The evidence shows that sensing and algorithmic capabilities have matured faster than the organisational and governance capacity required to convert those capabilities into adopted agribusiness decisions. Data-governance barriers, rather than technological ones, now dominate constraints on information-system integration in the literature published since 2023. Research, investment, and policy attention should therefore shift further toward the interoperability, governance, and organisational design layers of digital agriculture, rather than continuing to concentrate primarily on sensor accuracy or model performance.","数字农业的主流叙事聚焦于各类离散技术，包括传感器、无人机、全球定位系统、遥感和机器学习，并主要依据其提高产量和改善投入品利用效率的能力加以评价。 ,"Journal of Global Economics Management and Business Research","2026-09-26T00:00:00Z",80
[
[359,363,369,376,380
[292],[201,295],[26
[],[310,366,367],"machine learning","artificial intelligence",[119
"I3",[],[373,374],"遥感","remote sensing",[
[],[282],[282,27
"W7214471201",[394,396,398,400,402,404
Timilehin Fawibe
Gbenga Samuel Ernest
Joshua Emmanuel
Simon Jacob
Olawale Akinleye
Tosin Olorunwo
2292,"A governance-first framework integrates artificial intelligence and blockchain to advance sustainable and inclusive horticultural value chains","https://doi.org/10.3389/fsufs.2026.1894057","Horticultural value chains face persistent agronomic challenges including production inefficiencies, postharvest losses, poor resource management, and limited supply-chain transparency, particularly in smallholder-dominated systems across the Global South. These constraints undermine agricultural productivity, market access, and the long-term sustainability of horticultural farming. Despite growing research interest in digital agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology are increasingly explored together, including in emerging integrated AI-blockchain-IoT architectures for agricultural traceability. However, these existing integrations remain predominantly technology-centric, prioritizing traceability, automation, and data verification, without an explicit governance, equity, or data-sovereignty architecture designed specifically for smallholder-dominated horticultural production and distribution systems. This study proposes a comprehensive conceptual framework that integrates AI’s predictive and decision-support capabilities with blockchain’s data integrity, traceability, and automation features to enhance sustainability, inclusivity, and governance in horticultural value chains. Drawing on an integrative review of peer-reviewed sources identified through Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, and grounded in the Technology-Organisation-Environment (TOE) framework, Sociotechnical Systems Theory, and Sustainable Digital Transformation Theory, the study addresses the agronomic, governance, and equity dimensions of digital transformation in horticulture. The framework is structured around five interlinked operational layers, data collection, AI-driven analytics and decision-making, blockchain validation and traceability, smart contracts and decision support, and user interface and stakeholder feedback, all operating within a governance architecture and ethical design layer that functions as a structural precondition for the framework rather than a downstream feature. This governing layer embeds algorithmic transparency, data sovereignty through community-governed data cooperatives, and inclusive digital access for smallholder farmers as non-negotiable design principles. The framework explicitly aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 2, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 16, and includes a three-phase empirical validation pathway comprising expert Delphi elicitation, simulation modeling, and pilot implementation in horticultural cooperatives. The integration of AI and blockchain within an institutionally governed, equity-oriented architecture represents a paradigm shift from technology-first to governance-first digital transformation in horticulture, providing a theoretically robust and practically actionable foundation for future research, systems design, and policy development, with direct application to resource-constrained smallholder systems in sub-Saharan Africa and comparable Global South
