Rijk Zwaan increased its revenue by 7.5 per cent in the 2025/2026 financial year, reaching €735 million. Growth was recorded across virtually all regions and crops in which the fruit and vegetable breeding company operates. Net profit reached €90 million, compared with €68 million in 2024/2025.

"Stability is a hallmark of our business operations," says Ben Tax, Rijk Zwaan's board member. The company focuses on long-term employment and financial stability to support investment in employees, research, and innovation.

New varieties and breeding developments

Research and breeding remain central to Rijk Zwaan's activities, with a focus on developing fruit and vegetable varieties that address climate change, pests, diseases, and consumer requirements.

During the financial year, the company introduced aphid-resistant iceberg lettuce varieties, cabbage varieties suited to mechanised harvesting and processing, and Candy Ball watermelons weighing 1-2 kilograms. The smaller watermelons are intended for smaller households and consumers seeking convenience.

Expansion of international facilities

Rijk Zwaan opened facilities in Brazil, the Netherlands, and South Korea during the financial year.

A new breeding station in Brazil focuses on developing varieties adapted to tropical and subtropical climates. In South Korea, the company established a subsidiary to serve the local market.

In the Netherlands, Rijk Zwaan opened its Trial Centre Open Field, where growers and other supply chain partners can assess new varieties and cultivation concepts for open-field crops, including lettuce, brassicas, and leeks, under field conditions.

The company operates in more than a hundred countries, working with growers, processors, retailers, and other supply chain partners. It also provides crop data to growers, expands online seed sales across additional markets, and offers technical information through e-learning modules.

According to Tax, maintaining a consistent company culture remains a priority as Rijk Zwaan expands into markets with different working practices and cultures.

Focus on food supply

Rijk Zwaan states that hundreds of millions of people worldwide consume vegetables grown from its seeds.

The company continues developing fruit and vegetable varieties in response to changing growing conditions, geopolitical developments, shifting trade routes, and logistical challenges.

"It is precisely against this dynamic backdrop that we aim to be a stabilising force," says Tax. "We do this together with our colleagues and partners across the globe. This is how we – and our seeds – will continue to build a stable foundation for the world's food supply."
